      <image:title>About Sarah - Sarah Beaman</image:title>
<image:caption>Candidate for Secretary I am the current Secretary of the QNMU. I am a proud RN and QNMU member since 1997. Under my leadership, the QNMU has secured an LNP government commitment to maintain nation-leading wages and conditions for Queensland Health members, historic pay rises for private hospital members, and much-deserved increases to wages in aged care. I stand up for members, and have done so as a union organiser, professional officer, director, and active member. It was in 2013, when over 2,000 nurses and midwives were sacked, that I stepped up my activism in the QNMU to support my colleagues. Now, as QNMU Secretary, I don't hesitate to speak truth to power. I address the critical issues you care about - unsafe workloads, insufficient staffing, violence, and cost of living pressures - through media engagement, political dialogue and being at the table. Leading a union of over 74,000 members, I harness our collective power to secure the best outcomes for nursing and midwifery. I continue to have the immense privilege of being mentored by previous QNMU Secretary, Beth Mohle. Our QNMU Members United Team has a track record of success, a plan to keep nursing and midwifery strong, and we're asking for your vote.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Candidate for Vice President I am a strong voice for rural and remote Queensland members and have been honoured to serve as QNMU Vice President for the past 8 years. I seek your vote so I can keep achieving for nurses and midwives across all sectors. I am a passionate advocate and work as a Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Aboriginal community of Napranum where I have worked for over 19 years. I have attained extended scope in Rural and Isolated practice and Immunising. I care for people across the spectrum of life with a primary health focus. For this reason I feel affinity with members also working in primary care across Queensland. I became active in our union in the 1990’s at Princess Alexandra Hospital. I worked for several wonderful years as a Brisbane-based Organiser before moving north and back into the clinical setting. I have remained active in my local Branch and consultative forums and as a QNMU Councillor since that time. I remain steadfast in my commitment to our union. Our QNMU Members United Team has a track record of success, a plan to keep Nursing and Midwifery strong and we’re asking for your vote.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Candidate for Council I am currently an ENAS working at Biggenden MPHS which is a rural facility in the Wide Bay HHS. We provide care for aged care residents, acute patients, outpatients and have a small emergency department for emergency presentations. I am a strong advocate for our aged care residents and rural members. I believe that we need to do more to recruit and try to retain nurses and midwives in the bush and small rural communities. I am striving for a positive change in these areas and to be a voice for our most vulnerable. I have been an active QNMU Local Branch member since 2009, a Delegate and Workplace Representative since 2011. I am currently a Health and Safety Representative and have previously worked for the QNMU as a Member Organiser. I am an enthusiastic nurse and midwife advocate and I have a strong commitment to the professional interests of QNMU members. It will be a privilege and an honour to represent our members if elected. <image:caption>Candidate for Council I am a registered nurse with over 30 years’ experience in public hospital and aged care nursing across both Queensland and the UK. I have worked in all direct care roles and personally developed to my current position as a Nurse Practitioner specialising in Geriatric Medicine and working solely in aged care facilities across Southeast Queensland. <image:caption>Candidate for Council I am a Registered Nurse, current QNMU Councillor, and have worked in the private sector for over 10 years. My career began as a Patient Care Assistant, then as Enrolled Endorsed Nurse. I currently work as a community nurse in West Moreton. I am a mother of 2 daughters aged 15 and 22 yrs. I believe in empowerment and living life with no barriers, speaking up for injustice and standing by your own morals and beliefs. I enjoy the simple things in life, walking my two dogs, beach days, gardening and hanging out with my family. I believe in growing our voice and continuing to advance the professional standing of nurses and midwives across the state. The advocacy of QNMU’s members and officials was key to securing big wins in ratios, legislation to count babies midwifery care and huge reforms in aged care. We achieved that by working together, in line with our nursing and union values, we secured large scale reforms. With your vote, I look forward to continuing this important work. <image:caption>Candidate for Council As a current member of Council and an active member of the union, I am passionate about continuing my representation of Rural Nurses and Midwives. I have worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years and have been an active member of the union for as many years. I enjoy being a voice for rural nursing and believe that it is important to have a balance from all areas of nursing on Council. I moved to Nanango Rural Hospital over 20 years ago and developed two new union branches for the South Burnett region. I have participated in many campaigns over the years as I believe that every Nurse and Midwife deserves to be able to go to work and be properly renumerated for their work, that they should be safe at work and their voices heard. Also, as an active QNMU member I have been on the Industrial and Professional Policy Committee. I regularly attend union training to keep abreast of issues and encourage other members to attend training. Our QNMU Members United Team has a track record of success, a plan to keep nursing and midwifery strong, and we're asking for your vote.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Candidate for Council I have been a proud member of QNMU/ANMF for 45 years, with over 40 years of active and committed involvement in my local branch. In 2016, I had the privilege of working as a Project Officer at QNMU for five months, playing an integral role in the successful, statewide rollout of the nurse-patient ratio legislation. I was an expert witness in AIRC cases and a panel member for the Forster Review, served a number of terms on council and have 30 years of leadership experience as a NUM. I am deeply committed to encouraging union membership, promoting activism, and passionately advocating for nurses’ rights in the workplace. I have worked as a RN at The Prince Charles Hospital since 1988. And whilst undertaking a Critical Care course in Melbourne experienced the Irene Bolger-led Victorian nurses' strike. <image:caption>Candidate for President Right now you get to choose who leads our union over the next four years – a time beset by fluidity, challenge and complexity. QNMU members need a leadership team who have a track record of success and a plan to keep nursing and midwifery strong. I've been a QNMU Councillor for 18 years and an Executive Councillor for eight years. As an RN I've worked across public, private and aged care. I’ve served on or chaired various QNMU standing committees. I’ve worked at the national and state union levels, and have a respectful understanding of the broader union movement. I’m a prison nurse now. I love it. And I love fighting for my branch and our union. I'm a proud unionist with a solid activist record. I began nursing in aged care. I trained in the public system. Mostly I nursed in the perioperative and critical care fields. Nursing took me into management including Nursing Director and Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery roles. I'm part of the QNMU Members United Team and we're asking for your vote to advance our professions, our rights, and our pay and conditions to a standard the community needs and nurses and midwives deserve.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Candidate for Council I am currently a Nurse Practitioner working for West Morton Prison and Youth Detention Health Services and a co-owner of RnD Health, a Nurse Practitioner led Telehealth Service. I have been a keen union activist for most of my 26-year nursing career both in NSW and Queensland. Having previously been a QNMU Councillor, I understand the effort required to address the big issues – like workforce shortages. Working in both the public and private sectors I have a keen understanding of the issues faced by nurses across the state. I thoroughly enjoy representing nurses from all across the state. I believe every nurse deserves quality and fair working conditions, fair and equitable remuneration and support in their working life. I have also been a local branch delegate for prison health both locally and at a state level. I have also previously also been a part of the QNMU policy committee (QPC). Being part of a united union movement in Queensland is a passion that I enjoy and wish to continue for many more years to come. Our QNMU Members United Team has a track record of success, a plan to keep nursing and midwifery strong, and we're asking for your vote.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Candidate for Council I have been a member of the QNMU since 1995 and was motivated by the late Secretary, Gay Hawksworth, because of her strong democratic leadership and her ability to listen to nurses. I have worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years. I was a general trained nurse and studied my post graduate and masters in Mental Health Nursing. I’ve worked in RBWH, PAH and Alice Springs, in addition to ten years working in London in a private psychiatric hospital. Since becoming a union delegate I have been active in all campaigns and rallies, and was heavily involved in the Ratios Save Lives campaign. Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare industry. I often reflect on a union shirt I own that says, “NURSES WORTH LOOKING AFTER” – because I know deep in my heart that we need to support nurses and listen to their voices. As Councillor, I will listen to nurses, be their voice, and make sure we have the power to make a difference. Our QNMU Members United Team has a track record of success, a plan to keep nursing and midwifery strong, and we're asking for your vote.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Candidate for Council I am a First Nations Endorsed Midwife based in rural Queensland. Over the past 16 years, my career in healthcare has encompassed diverse roles, starting as a wards person in the private sector. I have served in various capacities, including Assistant in Nursing within the aged care sector, Enrolled Nurse in general practice, and Registered Midwife in remote Far North Queensland (FNQ) within a Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model of care. As a candidate for the QNMU council, I am committed to actively advocating for safe workloads alongside cultural and psychological safety for all healthcare professionals. With extensive experience in rural and remote health care services, I understand the unique challenges and rewards inherent in serving these communities. I am dedicated to ensuring that the voices of rural and remote midwives are heard and that their invaluable contributions are recognised and valued. Together, we can create a safer, more inclusive, and supportive environment for both healthcare providers and the families we serve. <image:caption>Running unopposed for Council – First Nations – Southern Queensland I am a Clinical Nurse Consultant at the Prince Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. I joined my first nurses’ union when I started nursing 40 years ago at the tender age of 18. I have worked across many areas in the healthcare industry including acute care; perioperative; aged care; ambulatory care; research; pharmaceutical industry; public and private health; and the QNMU. My many years of experience working across eastern Australia and the USA, have helped me understand the complexities of health and the pressures that are applied to the system of health care. I have strongly advocated for equity and equality to ensure that all my patients and Nursing and Midwifery colleagues are supported to have great outcomes. I have fearlessly advocated for my Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to ensure that our nurses and patients are sitting at the table, especially when decisions are being made about them. I have been a nurse for over 21 years working across Qld, NT, WA and New Zealand, from the city to the bush. I have worked in private and public settings, across several fields including mental health, Emergency, Acute Care, Community and forensic services. I currently work as Clinical Nurse Consultant within the Police Mental Health Co-Responder. I am also a QNMU Delegate, Workplace Representative and Health and Safety Representative at the Cairns Hospital. Throughout my 31 years’ experience I have worked across general medical, infection control, education, palliative care and cancer care. I hold a Bachelor of Nursing, Graduate Certificate in Quality Improvement and Masters in Adult Education. I am a workplace delegate, workplace representative, NMCF committee member and Chair of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital Branch. I have supported members through grievances and participated in resolution of standdown / standby on public holidays, and inclusion of 100% RN rec leave backfill in BPFs. In 2023 I received the Emma Miller Union Activist Award and have been the recipient of the QNMU Anna Stewart scholarship. This opportunity provided me with an understanding of the workings within the QNMU office and other unions. I have a strong interest in advocating for Positive Practice Standards and addressing the challenges facing the current and future nursing and midwifery workforce. <image:caption>Candidate for Council I started my nursing career at the RBWH 27 years ago having had experience in neurology, dermatology and cardiology, and am now a clinical nurse with the Infection Monitoring and Prevention Services. Nursing is a way for me to give back to the country and the people that gave us protection after arriving in Australia with my family in 1986 as political refugees. We were persecuted for union participation in Guatemala, so there was no question that I would become a very proud QNMU union member as soon as I started my nursing career. Advocating for the rights of nurses and midwives, is something that I feel very passionate about. I experienced so many inequalities and injustices before arriving in Australia. This is why I strongly support the QNMU’s commitment to a fair society and its advocacy to improve the quality of life for all Australians. As nurses, we can do that by advocating to keep our health system safe and human. As your Councillor, I will ensure your concerns are heard and acted upon. I became a Health and Safety Representative and QNMU Delegate and Representative 3 years ago. I am an active member of the GPH QNMU Branch, representing my colleagues at the QNMU Annual Conference for the last 2 years. I’ve attended the annual May Day march, rallied at GPH during enterprise bargaining and rallied outside Parliament. I regularly attend MODs and education events to keep up to date with changes affecting the private sector. I participate in our union to ensure wages keep up with the cost of living and conditions of work are constantly improved. I am nominating for QNMU Council so that members at GPH have strong representation, and Council is kept aware of issues affecting members in the private sector. <image:caption>Candidate for Council I’ve been in aged care for 25 years. It’s a passion and a calling for me, but we can do so much better in the way we look after our elderly. Holding their hand when they take their last breath; sitting with them when they are confused or scared; or even just having a cuppa and talking about their childhood. Some of those stories are amazing and I’m so privileged to be able to care for them. I’ve been with QNMU for years, holding roles as a union representative, delegate and now branch chair, growing the branch from 30 to 50 members. I am an activist, who has made it very clear to employers that carers should not be tasked with kitchen and cleaning duties that take us away from our residents. I am an Emma Miller Award recipient and was part of a delegation to Canberra that met with MP Anika Wells to advocate for aged care workers. I am proud to stand up for anyone who needs support, especially carers and nurses. <image:caption>Candidate for Assistant Secretary - Nursing I am the current QNMU Assistant Secretary and have worked in nursing in regional Queensland since 2004. I'm a proud Enrolled Nurse with a background in anaesthetics within the perioperative environment. In my 30 year health career I have worked across public, private, aged care and medical sectors. As a QNMU member I have been active as a local Workplace Representative, Branch Delegate and Councillor, fuelling my passion for mentoring and empowering nurses and midwives. Living in Rockhampton and having worked as a regional organiser supporting members across Queensland, I'm a strong advocate for regional, rural and remote nurses and midwives. Similarly, as the current QNMU Assistant Secretary, I have championed the issues all nurses and midwives care about – safe staffing, reasonable workloads and professional recognition. I know what it takes to keep nursing and midwifery strong and valued as professions. With QNMU Secretary, Sarah Beaman, I will continue to work hard to ensure our union grows in power industrially and professionally so nurses and midwives get the respect and reward we deserve. <image:caption>Running unopposed for Council – First Nations North I am the Nurse Manager for Torres and Cape Hospital and Health (TCHHS) Virtual Care Services – based on Thursday Island. I’ve been a strong advocate for nurses and community members for more than 20 years. As a recent example, I supported a graduate nurse to voice her concerns about the lack of cultural safety within the workplace. This was a contributing factor to the establishment of identified Clinical Facilitator positions throughout TCHHS. By telling my story to the former Health Minister on how I was subjected to racial discrimination during a recruitment process along with my experience in the workplace, I helped the push for TCHHS to be investigated. From the investigation, 35 recommendations into improving the recruitment process were identified. I’m currently working with the Far North Queensland First Nations branch for mob to be renumerated for cultural/colonial load and for cultural leave to be increased to 10 days under EB12. I’m also working collaboratively with other coalition unions for First Nation’s staff within TCHHS to have an individual psychosocial assessment conducted so that appropriate support systems for our mob are implemented. It’s time for our mob to share our stories and through our stories we will see change. <image:caption>Candidate for Council Throughout my working life, I have been inspired and guided by the values of the union movement. Having experienced wins achieved through collectivism, I know first-hand the importance of a strong and healthy union movement. We are fortunate at the QNMU to be leaders in not only membership numbers but also in the way our members are involved in standing up for their rights within their workplaces through grassroots activism. I am Branch Chair of the Cairns Hospital Branch and have served on the QPC for some years now, seeing firsthand the difference members can make in order to lead change and direction within their workplace. In 2019, I was involved in a serious accident on my way to work, which has left me with several disabilities. This lived experience has helped me view the role of nursing and midwifery through a different lens, especially seeing I can no longer undertake bedside nursing. If elected to council, I vow to serve for all members from the Torres Strait to the southernmost corners of Queensland so that in solidarity we can grow our mighty union and make nurses and midwives an even stronger force to be reckoned with.</image:caption>
